“Impressed by Reading” Workshop Report

The Impact and Fiction project, in cooperation with Federico Pianzola (Groningen) and Berenike Herrman (Bielefeld), on February 24-28 2025 held a workshop about the impact of reading. The workshop was held at the premises of the Lorentz Center at Leiden University.

The purpose of the workshop was to establish a roadmap for studying the impact of reading. Researchers from various disciplines (Psychology, Information Science, Digital Humanities, Literary Studies) convened to look at fundamental concepts and questions in the study of how reading affects readers. What methods do we have to study these? Is it possible to sketch a shared pathway to answering the questions of how signs on a page can change us?
